Christmas Day Excerpt

Tangled kelp with uprooted holds washed up at my feet and then returned back down with the waves. Green sea grass lay at the surf line together with bits of transparent blue backed jellies. It wasn’t long before I picked up a tangle of fishing line here and a bottle top there, sometimes a bright blue piece of plastic that made we wonder what it had been, sometimes a red piece of plastic that had once belonged to a cup.

This illustration is not part of the book, but rather one of the origins of my inspiration writing it. It is common to find fishing line at the beach, and I am actually glad when it is tangled up. This way it is less dangerous for marine life.
